The insights:
How many years have you been at the company? I have been working at Engel & Völkers Mallorca for twenty years, a journey that has been rewarding and enriching. Ten years ago, I had the fortune to join Christina Deutsch's team, where I've had the opportunity to grow professionally and contribute to the company's success. Over these two decades, I have witnessed many changes and challenges.
For how long have you been living in Mallorca? I have been living in Mallorca for twenty-one years, an experience that has been fundamental in my life and career. I arrived on this beloved island in 2003, and since then, Mallorca has become my home. My residence here is closely linked to my time at Engel & Völkers, as it was thanks to this company that I had the opportunity to relocate to this beautiful island.
Where did you grow up? I grew up primarily in Germany, where I spent much of my childhood and adolescence. However, throughout my life, I have had the opportunity to live in different parts of the world. For a while, I called Sydney, Australia, home, where I experienced the vibrant Australian culture and enjoyed its stunning landscapes. I also lived in Singapore, a fascinating and dynamic city that provided me with unique experiences and allowed me to immerse myself in the cultural diversity of Southeast Asia.
What made you move to Mallorca? The truth is, I decided to move to Mallorca primarily for work reasons. The opportunity to work for a company like Engel & Völkers in such a privileged location as Mallorca was irresistible.
What do you like most about the island? There are many reasons why you fall in love with this island. One of them is the diversity between the sea with its beaches and the coves with the mountains, such as the spectacular Serra de Tramuntana. The weather, the food... everything makes it attractive. Also, I love Palma in the winter time.
What made you want to go into real estate and how did you end up at Engel & Völkers? My interest in the real estate sector began when I had the opportunity to work for a real estate agency while living in Sydney. During my time there, I discovered a passion for helping people find the perfect home and for being part of the exciting process of buying and selling properties.
When I arrived in Mallorca, I intended to continue along the same career path, and I had the offer, which I now see as an opportunity, to join Engel & Völkers, a leading company in the real estate market with an exceptional reputation. I thought to myself, "Why not?". I never regretted my decision.
What is something you like the most at your job? The opportunity to meet new and interesting people with the dream of acquiring a home in Mallorca, and for me, as a worker, to be able to participate in this journey to fulfill that dream, is truly an adventure. It's also a constant challenge of our job to find the right buyer for the seller because often we are not just selling a property, but also many memories and emotions.
Tell us what has been your favorite (or most memorable) sale or deal with a client? There are so many experiences, but I think I'll stick with a client who purchased a property on the seafront. I can only say that the negotiations were extremely difficult and lengthy, but in the end, he and his family showed me so much gratitude at the notary's office... That I knew all the effort had been worth it.
Is there anything you wish people knew or understood about real estate agents that you think they constantly get wrong? I would like people to understand that real estate agents are committed professionals who strive to do our best at all times. There is often a misconception about our profession, and I would like to emphasize that we are here to help our clients find the perfect property and guide them through the entire buying or selling process.
Like anyone else, we also have good days and bad days. Although we strive to maintain a high level of professionalism and service, we also face challenges and setbacks as part of our job. However, the most important thing is that we are dedicated to meeting the needs of our clients and doing everything possible to achieve their real estate goals.
As a foreigner, have you ever felt that you were not well accepted? Absolutely NOT. It is true that I have adapted to the culture of the place where I live as a sign of respect, and sincerely, I feel very grateful for the treatment I have received from all the residents of the island. The local community has been fundamental in my experience on the island, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of it.
